On November 8, 2011 at a regular scheduled meeting, Newmont officials posed a question to the Wells City Council concerning possible new discovery of gold at Long Canyon. The Newmont officials, made an hour long power point presentation to a packed meeting room that included Wells residents looking for information on the proposed future of Newmont’s gold mine located in the Long Canyon. The residents were also looking for information on how all of this will impact their city’s future.

Newmont has discovered at their Long Canyon site, through the drilling in 2011 of over 170,000 feet of test holes, that there is a vast expanse of high grade ore there. The find also indicated that oxidized in deposits of limestone is a large amount of microscopic gold and when extracted no acid will be produced. Using leaching process to extract the gold will be a fairly simple process and the cost will be relatively low. The potential for development is believed by Newmont to be unlimited as the belief is that the gold spans out in all directions.

In 2008 and 2011, two environmental assessments were done and data collection and baseline studies will continue until mid 2012 when the final report will be presented. This report should give a detailed explanation the factors that will be called into play when developing the mine. This will include sanitation facilities and water supply, explosive storage, fuel storage and dispensing, shops and warehouses, and offices.

Many of the residents will likely continue to be concerned about the health risks to those who will be working the mines and how they will be compensated for accidents, health problems and specifically undiagnosed compensation.

The Newmont officials expect that the go ahead for this new mine to start up will occur sometime in 2015. In the construction phase, which will last for about a year and a half, some 700 jobs will be created. In 2017, when the mine begins operations some 400 workers will be needed.

Many people know or have heard of Las Vegas. One should however not find it surprising that many of these people have never heard of Nevada, the state that houses the popular city of Las Vegas. Normally, we should not expect people like this to know that the capital of Nevada is Carson City. This explains how difficult it is for people to understand that there is more to Nevada than the city of Las Vegas. Such is the story of the underrated Wells city in Nevada. Las Vegas might be bigger or more populated, but Wells is also beginning to attract attention, as more people are discovering its vast array of amenities and tourist attractions. There are job opportunities ranging from nursing jobs to virtually all other aspects of professional lives. The fear of getting a job should hinder no one from settling in Wells.

Wells, Nevada is fast becoming a tourist attraction. The number of regular visitors has continued to increase. One of the most fascinating attractions in this city is its history. The city of Wells tells its own story right from the moment a visitor arrives. Vacationers do not also have to travel all the way to Las Vegas to get a sight of Casinos. The city offers them in large numbers. Wells may not be as popular or as big as Las Vegas, but it’s surely a place worth discovering. For the lovers of equestrian sports Wells offers access to real cowboys, whose horsemanship cannot be doubted. Wells is growing; you should visit.

When most people think of Nevada the first place that comes to mind is Las Vegas. However there are lesser known but equally interesting places to visit when in Nevada. For instance there is a small town called Wells Nevada that has a rich history in the early settlement of the US. For history enthusiast exploring the history of this town is something that all people should do. Many of the settlers that came from the east traveled through this region of the West leaving clues to the struggles of settling the Wild West.
Aside from its interesting history, Wells is also centrally located to many of the more famous tourist destinations. However, most people that visit areas like Wells for a truly restful and relaxing vacation experience. Wells and towns like it offer a more laid back experience than the busier vacation spots like Las Vegas. Breathtaking views, fishing, camping and horseback riding excursions are just a few of the activities that Wells has to offer. Taking a tour of the town’s downtown area can provide you a feeling of the early settlement days in the Wild West.
Along with a variety of hotels, RV parks, restaurants and fuel services available in and around the area, Wells is the perfect destination for road travelers looking for a quiet place to rest and relax or as an ideal stop over on your vacation journey. With average temperatures in the summer of 88 degrees visiting Angel Lake about 13 miles from Wells is a must for any visitor.

Lawmakers in the US state of Nevada have voted to close the most symbolic and oldest prison in the state in the spring of 2012. A committee made the decision to shut down Nevada State Prison by April of next year, after it was expected that the facility would actually close in October 2011.

The committee will also close the Wells Conservation Camp at the same time, despite recommendations by the governor to maintain the camp for another biennium. Residents of Wells in northeastern Nevada are economically dependent on the labour of inmates to combat fires and other key manual tasks. The Wells camp was opened 26 years ago to house 150 inmates before they were transferred to various other sites within the state of Nevada. People say closing the camp this summer could have saved as much as $2 million over two years. Meanwhile, corrections staff have yet to determine the amount of savings that could be made with the site’s closure next spring.

The Democratic Party has been critical of the budget of the Corrections Department because of the governor’s recommendations of financing with general funds in order to make-up for the lack of available federal-stimulus funds. Meanwhile, many public services (such as DNA Testing centres and other health care services) in the local area have been hit hard by the recent federal budget cuts, which are just as austere as those experienced in the United Kingdom. Schools have been particularly badly hit with the cuts, with some politicians arguing that prison cells have been prioritised over the classrooms.

<p "margin-bottom: 2.25pt; line-height: normal; background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;">The 2008 earthquake that cost the local economy $10 million in damages close to the town of Wells in Nevada was a clear reminder that such events occur without warning and often when least anticipated, say researchers from a university. The 6.0 magnitude earthquake took place on February 21, 2008 and was the largest quake in Nevada for four decades. It was also the largest in the region of northeast Nevada for more than 120 years, the 500-page long report from the University of Nevada (Reno’s) Nevada Seismology Laboratory found.

It took place around 60 miles west of the Utah border, despite the fact that Wells is situated in one of the most stable areas in Nevada in terms of seismic hazard levels. John Price, a Nevada State Geologist, said he had been surprised by the quake, although the United States'Geological Survey predicts that there is an almost one in ten chance of such an earthquake (or worse) occurring in a 30 mile radius of Wells every half century. The likelihood of a similar quake in Nevada as a whole is closer to 70 percent for Reno and Carson City, according to the new study. The state averages at three or four quakes a century with magnitudes equal to 7 or more. Clearly significantly less than the chance of earthquake-related damage affecting lofts in north london or other seismically stable regions in the world.

The Wells event destroyed three homes and around 80 buildings occupied by businesses and government officials were damaged. The study also noted that older buildings, particularly unreinforced masonry structures, were particularly susceptible to damage.

Just outside Wells, Nevada is a ghost town. This ghost town is situated about twelve miles North West of Wells Nevada and is quite easily accessible by road. Some of the routes in that area are in a fairly bad state of repair so I’d advise taking a rugged sort of vehicle up there. It is hot and dry so take water as well.

The town of Metropolis was always going to be an ambitious project. It seems bizarre to think that this town was the life and livelihood of around seven hundred people at its peak, yet has now faded into dusty obscurity. One photo, of a newlywed with her wedding favour, springs to mind. Anyway, It started life as a pioneering outpost, where brave settlers had tried to farm the basin. There were grand plans for a dam to be built, with a man called Harry L Pierce being in charge of actually settling the area. He bought 40,000 acres (or about 16,000 hectares) for the purpose of living and farming the area.

At the height of its success, the town boasted an amusement hall, a post office, a modern hotel, a train depot, and a school. The hotel had an electricity generator as well as hot and cold running water in each and every room.

The settlement fell into disrepair after farmers shot all the coyotes, which in turn led to an explosion in the jackrabbit population. This made it difficult to farm, although for a few years the people of Metropolis sold the jackrabbits to the people of nearby (ish) San Francisco. In 1924, just 200 people remained. The last store closed the following year and the post office finally ceased to exist in 1942.

Unfortunately the trip to visit family fell through, so instead we’re eying a return to Florida for a quick getaway until such time that plans can be made for jetting further afield.Vacation villas abound, offering luxurious and often economical lodging for guests of all ages and tastes. In Orlando, Florida, I have very much enjoyed our stays in the spacious 2 and 3-bedroom villas at Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort. This resort, located within the gates of Walt Disney World but owned by Wyndham, is a gorgeous vacation destination unto itself. Villas at Wyndham Bonnet Creek can be rented quite economically through Ebay or Redweek. These villas feature fully-equipped kitchens, washer/dryers within the units, and luxurious bedrooms and baths. The balconies on the villas at Wyndham Bonnet Creek are enormous, offering a welcome place to sit and enjoy the breathtaking views at the resort. The resort itself is situated around a lake. It offers free mini-golf, numerous beautiful swimming pools and lazy rivers, a shaded playground, and lovely walking paths. The price and the location are unbeatable.

There are also plenty of coastal villas in Florida. Whether you fancy a stay on the Atlantic coast, in the trendy Palm Beaches, or on the tranquil Gulf Coast, there are villas dotting the coastline that will exceed your expectations. It is possible to rent a timeshare villa in Florida directly from the owner for an economical price by checking tug2.com, Redweek or Ebay. Additionally, contacting a timeshare villa directly often allows you to rent a villa from an owner who has agreed to rent their week that year.

My personal favorite coastal villa in Florida is Oceanique in Indian Harbour Beach. Located directly in the heart of the Space Coast region, this small resort offers direct ocean views, a lovely pool and spa area, and daily activities for guests. Additionally, the resort can help you book excursions if you so desire. The villas at Oceanique are all spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom units with full kitchens and in-villa washers and dryers. I found staying at this villa to be very relaxing. Going from the pool to the beach to the pool again is a wonderful way to spend a Florida vacation, and relaxing in a spacious villa at the end of the day is wonderful too.

Some of my family reside in Puerto Rico, and we had always wanted to go. The challenge is that we usually live paycheck to paycheck and there’s not typically money leftover for buying airfare tickets. Whenever we make the decision to go, however, we have found some ways to find the cheapest flights.

We may live a mere fifteen miles from one airport, but we don’t rule out the other ones in our area. We will search all airports within about two hundred miles. One year, we found the absolute cheapest flights were out of an airport one hundred fifty miles away. Further searching revealed a hotel close to the airport that offered rooms for only $80 a night, with a free shuttle to the airport and free parking for up to two weeks. We crunched the numbers and found that we would still save money by using that airport. Even after paying for gas and the hotel, we saved more than six hundred dollars on that flight!

We have family about two hundred miles away in another direction. When we went a few years later, we drove to their home and flew out of their local airport. We stayed one night with them before we flew out and after we arrived back. They drove us to the airport and picked us up, and stored our car at their house while we were gone. The great thing about this plan was that we got to see more family members as part of the trip! And again, even after accounting for the gas expense of the added drive, we still saved more than four hundred dollars.

The best advice I can give if you are planning a trip to someplace exotic is to consider all the airports that you might be willing to drive to. Don’t limit yourself to the one that’s closest to you, or even the one that’s most convenient. When trying to find the cheapest flight, you may find that the cheapest one is someplace you never thought to look.

With one third of Nevada jobs tied to tourism, investing in Nevada would always pay off, one way to make a great investment whilst gaining a brilliant asset is to purchase a house in Nevada, perhaps close to Nevada capital Las Vegas.

If the thought of being a landlord seems a little scary and risky, then you could always protect yourself simply by looking into compare landlords insurance. Once you protect yourself and your financial venture, you can then go onto making yourself some money from taking advantage of the tourism industry in Nevada.

Throughout Nevada, gambling is a big business as well as Marriage. Many would have heard of the drive by marriage centers, as well as the instant annulments. The world of entertainment is massive in Nevada, with many making a living from their talents, whether it is singing, dancing or acting. It is also known for the legalized active brothels.

It is worth taking serious note that Nevada is a desert and as such has desert temperatures. Temperatures in the summer can reach up to 52 Degrees Celsius while winter could reach as low as -46 Degrees Celsius.

Nevada is well known by being founded by mining, but rebuilt on the city of Sin, from divorces and gambling, to explicit entertainment and brothel activities. Something to bear in mind when looking into renting out your property to hopeful locals, although with so many people heading to Nevada to begin the rest of their lives, streets are fast becoming overcrowded making it one of the fastest growing states in America.

Like a lot of the towns in Nevada, Wells is overshadowed by the other major cities in the area, especially Las Vegas. It’s a shame that those passing through looking for a diner or diesel don’t think to stop for a little while in our lovely town and check out what we have to offer. It doesn’t help that Wells is situated on two major roads. It’s hardly surprising really that people have come to think of our town as somewhere that you pass through rather then somewhere where you pass some time.

Even the most die-hard Wells lover would have to admit that we don’t have anything to match the bright lights of Las Vegas, but not everyone visiting the state wants to lose all their dollars in the slots. Many want to experience the breathtaking beauty our country, and our region in particular, has to offer. The area has long been to known to local hikers and Angel Lake is a great spot to relax with a fishing rod in hand. There’s no need to speed through when you can stop and chill out for a few days! After all, Las Vegas will still be there even if you pause and take a breath in Wells.

The area has so much history to offer too, as well as natural attractions. The local history society organises walking tours round the old town; a lot still looks the same as it did back in the 1800s! So much for progress… Of course, if the gambling bug has well and truly caught hold of you, and you can’t possibly wait until you reach Las Vegas for your hit, Wells does have a couple of small casinos itself. Don’t expect any big jackpots here though!
